My Removal From Office Was Corruption Fighting Back - Magu

Some unknown individuals have broken into the office of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and destroyed computers containing evidence against the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Naija News reports that this may be a plot to frustrate Magu’s probe by the Justice Ayo Salami-led presidential panel.

It is understood that the NFIU office was burgled, with at least seven computers containing sensitive financial information taken away and others destroyed.

Following this development, Nigerians have taken to the streets of Twitter to share their opinions. See some of their reactions expressing worries that if one of the most secured places in the country can be vandalized, how can normal Nigerians be assured of their own safety.

Some other views are of the opinion that the NFIU attack is definitely not a random development, but is linked to the ongoing investigations against Ibrahim Magu, suspended EFCC Acting Chairman.

Some Nigerians also alleged that with the recent development in the Magu investigation, it is hard to believe the corruption fight initiative been championed by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, it will be recalled Magu has been appearing before the investigative panel since Monday, 6th July and has been in police custody. His lawyer has applied for bail for his client based on self-recognition.
