Russian Governor Arrested For Allegedly Ordering Murders

The Governor of Khabarovsk region in Russia, Sergei Furgal, has been arrested and detained over his alleged involvement in the death of multiple people fifteen years ago.

It was revealed on Thursday that the Governor was arrested having ordered multiple murders allegedly committed by an organised criminal group about 15 years ago.

According to a statement by Russia top investigative agency, Furgal is considered the “organiser of attempted murder and the murder of a number of businesspeople in 2004 and 2005.”

The Investigative Committee in a statement released revealed that four alleged members of the criminal group have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in those crimes, committed in Khabarovsk and the neighbouring Amur region.

It was reported that Governor Furgal was implicated during the questioning of the suspects arrested.

State media in its statement further stated that the 50-year-old governor was brought into the capital, Moscow, for further investigative.

He will be brought before a court to determine whether he would be detained during the course of the investigation.

The leader of Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, the platform on which Furgal won his election has noted that the allegation levelled against him is a big political case and the party would defend him.

He was detained in the morning outside his home while he was heading to work, state media reported.
