As Preperation continues for the September governorship election in Edo State, Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Johnson Alalibo, has reeled out the numbers of voters cards which has been collected.

Speaking yesterday, Alalibo noted that a total number of one million, seven hundred and thirty five thousand, nine hundred and ten (1,735,910)    permanent voters’ cards have been collected, while people are yet to collect the remaining which amounts to four hundred and eighty three thousand, eight hundred and sixty eight (483,868).

He further noted that the Commission has no plan on carrying out the continuous voter registration, adding that they would use the data from 2019 register.

On Security, Alalibo said the inter-agency consultative committee on election security, held a meeting with heads of the various security agencies in the state.

He said the meeting was necessitated by the need for them to synergize.

The REC further called on key stake holders to please ensure that they maintain peace and order in the state.

He added that the election is not a do or die affair, adding that that is the crux of electoral violence.

Election is not a do or die exercise, Edo people should come and vote in their choice, they should remember that there is life after election, so as a Commission we expect the voter to comport themselves in a manner that speaks positively,” he added.
