NCDC Reports 544 Cases Of Coronavirus In Nigeria, Breakdown Of Cases By State

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported fresh 544 cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the NCDC confirmed the new 544 cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria in a series of tweets on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Sunday evening, July 5.

According to the NCDC, of the four hundred and fifty-four new coronavirus cases recorded on Sunday evening, 199 were recorded in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city, Ebonyi-65 Oyo-47 Ondo-46 Ogun-31 Edo-30 FCT-28 Katsina-25 Plateau-15 Bayelsa-11 Kaduna-10 Adamawa-10 Akwa Ibom-8 Gombe-7 Kano-4 Taraba-3 Rivers-2 Abia-2 Ekiti-1, southwest Nigeria.

The NCDC tweeted: “544 new cases of #COVID19Nigeria; Lagos-199 Ebonyi-65 Oyo-47 Ondo-46 Ogun-31 Edo-30 FCT-28 Katsina-25 Plateau-15 Bayelsa-11 Kaduna-10 Adamawa-10 Akwa Ibom-8 Gombe-7 Kano-4 Taraba-3 Rivers-2 Abia-2 Ekiti-1 28,711 confirmed 11,665 discharged 645 deaths,” the tweet added.

Former LASIMRA GM Dies of COVID-19 In Lagos

Jide Odekunle, a former General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), on Saturday died of COVID-19 complications.

Naija News reports that Odekunle was being treated for COVID-19 at the Onikan Isolation center.

In a post on Facebook, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, confirmed his death.

He said “former General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, LASIMRA, Jide Odekunle, dies of COVID19 complications at Onikan Isolation center.

“May his soul Rest In Peace.”

Coronavirus: Madagascar Returns To Full Lockdown Amid Increasing Cases

A new outbreak of Coronavirus cases has led the Malagasy authorities to place the capital Antananarivo under a new lockdown, two months after the relaxation of restrictions, the presidency announced on Sunday.

“The Analamanga region (under which the capital is located) has returned to complete containment, “ the presidency said in a statement.

According to the same press release, no traffic will be authorized in or out of the region from Monday until July 20 and a strict curfew will be imposed on those who circulate on the street. “Only one person per household is allowed to go out on the street between 6:00 (04:00 GMT) and 12:00 (10:00 GMT),” the statement said.

The measures were taken “due to the spread of the epidemic and the increase in cases of COVID-19,” added the presidential document. Used to recording dozens of cases of coronavirus per day, Madagascar has seen an exponential increase in daily numbers in recent days, reaching a record 216 cases on Saturday. The last count came after 675 people were tested. So far, nearly 24,000 tests have been carried out on the impoverished island with a total of 2,941 confirmed cases of coronavirus on the entire large island.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a list of countries with the highest coronavirus (COVID-19) death cases in Africa.

In the past 24 hours, Africa COVID-19 cases have risen to 461,203, 11,052 deaths recorded and 222,000 recoveries.

Egypt has recorded the highest number of deaths with 3,280, followed by South Africa with 3,026 fatalities and Algeria with 946 deaths.

Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, has recorded 634 reported deaths.

Other countries are Sudan (608 deaths), Cameroon (313 deaths), Morocco (232 deaths), DR Congo (181 deaths), Kenya (159 deaths), Mauritania (129 deaths), Senegal (129 deaths), Mali (118 deaths) and Ghana (117 deaths).
