Nigerian highlife singer and songwriter, Adekunle Gold has condemned Nigeria Custom Service over the continuous hike in customs duty.

The singer accused the Customs of crippling businesses in the country by their uncalled charges despite situations brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Adekunle said the Nigerian government system is making things hard for people engaged in legitimate business with the increased levy while shipping goods into the country.

The 33-year-old took to his verified account on the microblogging site, Twitter, and wrote; “People are trying their hardest to do legitimate business in the country. Customs Duty is there doing a lot of madness and crippling businesses.”

He added, “Lord, make it make sense. Because I’m really tired.”

Naija News understands that the singer’s reaction was coming after Nollywood Actress, Uche Elendu challenged the Nigerian Government over the issue of exorbitant customs duty fee collected from business owners who are striving to grow their space in the economy.

The actress alleged that Nigeria customs is making things difficult for entrepreneurs in the country, noting that the charges are not encouraging entrepreneurs doing legitimate ventures.

Expressing his displease, Adekunle Gold said the exorbitant fees is really getting him tired.

Attesting to the development, another twitter user identified as Ms Alice while responding to a comment from @adepompom, said that the Custom had asked her mother for a bribe of N1.5m for the release of her goods.

She noted that her mom’s container was delayed for a whole month and that she had to pay even extra charges for the delay in payment.

Naija News understands that other netizens also shared their experiences with the Custom service, urged the Federal Government to address the issue in other to liberate citizens from excessive exorbitant.
