The military authorities disclosed in a statement on Thursday signed by Major General John Enenche, Coordinator, Defence Media Operations Defence Headquarters that many terrorists leaders and fighters were killed in the June 23 airstrike at Doumbourou forest.

Enenche said, “Nigerian Defence Headquarters airstrikes neutralized key terrorist leaders and fighters at Doumbourou forest in Zamfara State, following a series of intelligence,Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

“Air interdiction missions being conducted by the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI under the subsidiary Operation WUTAN DAJI have yielded more positive results with the destruction of two camps and a cave hideout of members of the armed terrorists’ gang led by Hassan Tagwaye in Doumborou Forest, Zamfara State.

“The air strikes resulted in the neutralization of some key armed terrorists’ leaders as well as several of their fighters.

“They were executed on June 23, after a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions led to the identification of the camps and a cave where the terrorists store their weapons as well as hide to evade attacks.

“At the first camp, some terrorists, who had assembled for a meeting near one of the huts, were neutralized by the attack aircraft.

The military statement added that twin terrorist, Hassan Tagwaye and his twin brother, Hussain were killed along with several other fighters.

“At the second camp, a suspected high-value terrorists’ leader along with some weapon-bearing fighters were seen in the vicinity of some huts.

“The attack aircraft engaged the target structures, scoring accurate hits and taking out the huts along with their occupants,” Enenche said.

The NAF jets later recorded direct hits on the suspected bunker, from where some of the terrorists were seen emerging, completely destroying it.

Human Intelligence reports further confirmed that Hassan Tagwaye and his twin brother, Hussain along with several other terrorists were neutralized in the airstrikes, while a few escaped with injuries.
