NDLEA Seizes More Than 1-Tonne Hard Drugs, Secures 27 Convictions In Oyo

Oyo State chapter of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said that in the last six months it has seized tones of narcotic drugs, psychotropics, jackknife, one cartridge, a local pistol among other items in the state.

The development was confirmed to newsmen in a statement a while ago by the state agency commander, Josephine Obi, who noted that the hard drugs and other items were seized between January 2020 to June 23.

Obi also revealed that the agency had secured twenty-seven convictions in the state following a synergy with other security outfits. According to the commander, the agency gave brief intervention to thirty-five drug addicts in the state while seven others were presently undergoing rehabilitation.

“Three more were admitted this year while five of them have been discharged,” said Obi while interacting with a journalist in Ibadan, the state capital.

Obi urged residents dealing with hard drugs to repent of the act as it could destroy their lifetime. The NDLEA commander noted also that the command had renewed its vigour and strategies towards dealing with drug challenges in all parts of the state.

She said, “For those who have people using drugs, don’t abandon or victimise them because it is not the end of life. They can come to NDLEA for advice so as to assist them in the rehabilitation process,” 

“NDLEA is always available for any organisation, school, and individual for enlightenment on the dangers of hard drugs and their effects.”

She reiterated, “We will ensure that the agency did not only disrupt the activities of those behind the heinous drug crime but will dismantle their networks and defeat them ultimately.”

Meanwhile, about a month ago, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has raised an alarm over the circulation of fake Coronavirus drugs in the country, Naija News recalls.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, noted that the agency discovered fake Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine in circulation across the country.
