Edo State Governor, Obaseki Finally Joins PDP

The political drama unfolding in Edo State has become a major source of interest to not just the indigenes and residents of the state, but also Nigerians in general.

This is as the different political parties continue to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the September 2020 governorship election in the state.

As previously reported by Naija News, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pitched his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on which platform he plans to contest the 2020 Edo governorship polls.

Obaseki dumped the APC for PDP after he was screened out from contesting the party’s (APC) primary election based on what the committee explained as discrepancies in his educational certificates.

Few days after Obaseki formally joined the PDP, it has now been reported that the party demanded N10b from the Governor as part of conditions he must fulfil to be able to join the party and contest on its platform.

However, it is understood that Obaseki offered N6b.

Sources quoted by ThisDay has it that the exchange of money is only part of other conditions given to Obaseki while negotiating with PDP to join the party.

Meanwhile, three aspirants of the PDP have refused to step down for the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, ahead of the party’s primary election.

The three governorship aspirants are Gideon Ikhine, Ogbeide-Ihama and Kenneth Imasuagbon who have been screened and cleared by the party for the primary.

The PDP primary was earlier scheduled to hold last weekend, but that party shifted it to June 23, because of the new developments.
