Not less than 300-graduates have been enrolled for employment by Borno State government under the leadership of Governor Babagana Zulum.

The disclosure was made on Sunday, June 21 by the state’s Commissioner of Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Babagana Mustafa who noted that the move was necessary so as to provide opportunities for youths in the state.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday, Mustapha revealed that the graduates were those who had filled in their details on the government’s job portal purposely created to take in data of all employed and unemployed youths in the state. According to him, this will enable the government to assist the youths to contribute their quota to the state by giving them job opportunities and as well as providing them with entrepreneurial skills needed.

The commissioner noted further that some of those whose name appeared on the recommendation list had already gotten an offer while some received more entrepreneurship training.

He said, “The repository will enable planning and training/orientation in order to improve the skill ambit and set career trajectory of Borno Young talents,”

He added that the new ministry which was initiated by the Zulum administration was meant to serve as a key driver for socio-economic growth and development of the state.

“The Vocational Enterprise Institution (VEI) will provide training for dropout and out of school persons wishing to go into self-employment, school leavers wishing to acquire the practical skill to secure employment and adult seeking for skill or opportunities to acquire more skills,” the commissioner noted.

“The VEI will run three-year modular programmes, where each year of study could be terminal and shall have a cogent and flexible structure. The content will equip the trainee with a practical working skill and possibility to exit at that level (National Vocational certificate part 1, Part 2 or Final)”, Mustafa said.

Other achievements of the ministry since establishment include the creation of the state website, installation of solar energy lights for townships street lights, housing estates and other government organisations like primary healthcare centres, Mustapha gave.
