Former  Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that the Deputy Governor of Ogun State had on Sunday dumped the All Progressives Congress {APC).

Ajayi tendered his resignation letter from the APC at Ward 2, Apoi in Eseodo local government, and immediately picked membership card of the PDP.

Reacting in a post on Twitter, Atiku said the PDP is big and sturdy enough to accommodate democrats.

He said, “I welcome Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, to our great party @OfficialPDPNig.

“Our repositioned party’s umbrella is big and sturdy enough to accommodate democrats desirous of an indeed people’s oriented change.”

Recall that Hon. Ajayi and the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu have had some disagreements in recent times.

It will be recalled the Deputy Governor was reportedly detained on Saturday night for several hours by the state commissioner of police, Bolaji Salami.

In the video obtained by Naija News, the commissioner was heard saying “you are already defecting, even your letter was brought to me this evening, you are defecting on Monday”.

The deputy governor interjected and asked how his (Salami) decision to defect was a concern of the Police commissioner.

He said: “Are you not a police officer, a senior officer, if I decide to leave a party for another, what’s your concern, are you the APC chairman, are you the PDP chairman.”
