A petrol tanker has exploded at the Kara axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday morning.

Naija News reports that many people were trapped on the bridge when the explosion occurred.

Due to the Federal Government’s curfew to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) vehicles that are unable to make it or leave Lagos before 10 pm are usually stranded on the bridge till 6 am when security operatives open the road to traffic.

Full details of the incident are still sketchy but some residents claimed that they could see a billow of smoke from afar after a loud bang.

The Federal Fire Service pleaded that there should be no vehicular movement around the area as they battle to put out the inferno.

“Kara Bridge Fire, men of the Federal Fire Service are already at the scene. Please vehicular movements should be halted around the area,” the tweet read.
