1. Governor Obaseki Formally Joins PDP For Edo 2020 Election

Governor Godwin Obaseki has formally joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party. Naija News understands that Governor Obaseki was received by the leadership of the party led by the state Chairman of the PDP, Hon Tony Aziegbemi ahead of Edo 2020 election slated for September.

Godwin Obaseki while giving his defection speech at Edo PDP Secretariat earlier today promised better governance to all Edo citizens. Former President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki has welcomed the Governor Godwin Obaseki into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the Edo 2020 election. Naija News had reported earlier that Governor Obaseki announced he was now a card-carrying member of the PDP after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the party’s screening committee disqualified.

5. Ex-Militant Asari Dokubo ‘Disowns’ Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB, Vows To Create ‘Own Biafra’

A former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has rejected the agitation for the Republic of Biafra championed by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Naija News reports that Asari, who is a former leader of the defunct Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF) and pro-Biafran, described Kanu as an “idiot” and alleged Kanu’s faction was promoting religious intolerance against non-followers of Judaism.

6. Nigeria Records 667 New Cases Of Coronavirus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has reported six hundred and sixty-seven new cases of Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria. The new figures were disclosed by the health agency on Friday, June 19 at exactly 11:05 pm, in a series of tweets via its verified account on the microblogging site, Twitter. This brings the overall confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria to 19,147. As at the time this report was given, 6,581 persons have been discharged from the novel virus after testing negative, while 487 people have died.

7. Buhari Govt Fixes Date To Commence Enrolment of N-Power Third Batch

Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has revealed that the federal government will begin the enrolment of the third batch of N-Power beneficiaries next week. She made this known in a statement on Friday by the Deputy Director Information of the Ministry, Rhoda Iliya.

8. Buhari Govt Bows To Pressure, Releases N4.5bn For Striking Doctors

Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government on Friday released N4.5 billion to 31 Federal Teaching Hospitals and Medical centres nationwide. This was made known by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, he, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire; and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, briefed President Buhari on the ongoing strike embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
