The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the decision by Governor Godwin Obaseki to officially join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) didn’t come to it as a surprise.

The APC said Obaseki until carried out what he had executed in his mind a long time ago.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that Obaseki officially joined the PDP on Friday, 19th June 2020.

But when contacted for a reaction, APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said the development is no news.

“It has not come to us as a surprise. We knew he had defected long ago because he resigned his membership of the party which we have accepted. So you can’t defect twice. So if he is defecting again, we don’t know whether what he has just done now is news any longer,” he said.

Recall Obaseki formally resigned from the APC earlier in the week after he was screened out of the Edo State governorship primary of the APC last week Friday.

The Governor who noted he was yet to decide on the party to join after dumping the APC however officially pitched his tent with the PDP on Friday.

The PDP confirmed the defection in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, saying: “The governor of Edo State, H. E. Governor Godwin Obaseki has defected to our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The declaration was made this afternoon at the state Secretariat of our party in Benin city, Edo State. Power to the people.”
