BREAKING: NCDC Confirms Cases Of Omicron Variant In Nigeria

A member of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Obudu constituency, Godwin Akwaji has died of suspected COVID-19 infection.

The lawmaker died on Thursday around 12:30pm at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) isolation centre after showing signs of COVID-19 infection.

Before giving up the ghost, Akwaji was also said to have exhibited fatigue, fever, cough, and short breath.

Meanwhile, Cross River remains the only state in Nigeria which has not recorded any official case of COVID-19 infection.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said as at June 10, 2020, the state had only tested nine samples out of its almost four million population.

The latest update given by the NCDC on Thursday night confirmed 745 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) has been recorded in Nigeria.

The NCDC confirmed this in a series of tweets on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Thursday evening, June 18.

According to the NCDC, of the seven hundred and forty-five new coronavirus cases recorded on Thursday evening, 280 were recorded in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city, Oyo-103 Ebonyi-72 FCT-60 Imo-46 Edo-34 Delta-33 Rivers-25 Kaduna-23 Ondo-16 Katsina-12 Kano-10 Bauchi-8 Borno-7 Kwara-5 Gombe-4 Sokoto-2 Enugu-2 Yobe-1 Osun-1 Nasarawa-1.
