1. More Confusion In APC As Victor Giadom Declares Himself Chairman, Cancels Screening Result Which Disqualified Obaseki

The controversy surrounding the recent political developments in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another turn on Wednesday after Victor Giadom says he has taken over as acting National Chairman of the party.

Shortly after announcing his takeover, Giadom announced he has cancelled the Edo State Governorship screening exercise which disqualified Godwin Obaseki.

2. Court Stops Obaseki, Others From Arresting Oshiomhole

A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and others from arresting the suspended National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice Ahmed Mohammed restated its orders made on June 1 restraining Obaseki from arresting Oshiomhole over alleged indictment in a white paper submitted to the state government.

3. FG Replies Atiku, Says He’s Spreading Lies About Nigeria’s Debt Profile

The federal government of Nigeria has cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to stop spreading lies about the country’s debt profile.

It will be recalled as published by Naija News on Tuesday that Atiku had raised an alarm about Nigeria’s rising debt profile and the continued borrowing by the federal government.

4. Sultan Of Sokoto Condemns Govts Silence On Insecurity

The President General of the Jamaatu Nasril Islam and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has condemned Boko Haram and bandits attacks which have led to the death of Nigerians.

The Sultan of Sokoto blamed government over their inability to stop the continuous killings, kidnapping, and banditry in the country.

5. Hilliard Eta Takes Over As APC National Chairman

The Deputy National Chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hilliard Eta has taken over as the acting National Chairman of the party.

Eta also declared as vacant the office of the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom.

6. Edo 2020: INEC Gives Political Parties Deadline To Conduct Primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that the commission will not extend the deadline already given for political parties to hold primary elections as regards the Edo governorship election.

The warning was handed down by the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu during the second virtual meeting of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security ICCES in Abuja on Wednesday.

7. Money Laundering: Adoke’s Trial Adjourned Till August 3rd 2020

The money laundering trial of Nigeria’s former Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke has been adjourned till 3rd of August 2020.

Naija News recalls that the embattled Ex-Attorney-General of the Federation was dragged before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

8. Nigeria Inflation Rate Hits 12.40% In May

The consumer price index, (CPI) which measures inflation increased by 12.40% (year-on-year) in May 2020.

This 0.06% points higher than 12.34% recorded in April.

9. Insecurity: Katsina Gov, IGP, DSS DG Hold Closed-Door Meeting

The Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari on Wednesday, held a closed-door meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, the Director-General, Department of State Services, Magashi Bichi, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Mungono, and the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba.

A source within the government house said the meeting is in connection with current security challenges in the state.
