The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has registered with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his ward and the move will be made official when he returns from Abuja.

This development was disclosed by the PDP chairman in Edo State, Tony Azegbemi.

He added that the party has already prepared Obaseki’s membership card and all other processes will be formalized once the governor returns to Edo State from Abuja.

“At the moment, Obaseki is in Abuja but when he returns to Benin, his card is ready and he has already registered with our party in his ward. We are ready to welcome Governor Obaseki and we are excited he is joining our party,” Azegbemi said in a chat with Daily Trust.

Naija News recalls Governor Obaseki on Tuesday, 16th June after a visit to the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, announced his decision to formally resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He added that he will be seeking re-election on the platform of another party but the Governor failed to reveal the party on which platform he will be seeking re-election.

On Wednesday, Obaseki also posted on Twitter that “I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election.”

When contacted as well, the Governor’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie, said he cannot confirm Obaseki’s move to the PDP as he was yet to be briefed on the development.

“The governor will make an announcement in respect of anything like that (going to PDP) but he has not spoken, so we cannot confirm it until he speaks. The last time he spoke he said he would consult with his supporters and announce where he is going to,” he said.

Meanwhile, this online medium earlier reported that leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will on Thursday, (today), meet to discuss the expected official defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Obaseki had met with Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) at the weekend.

It was also gathered that the Edo State governor on Wednesday night met with the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus and the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal.
