A multi-million Naira property belonging to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has been seized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Recall that the former lawmaker served as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Meanwhile, the development was announced by the spokesperson of ICPC, Rasheedat Okoduwa, on Tuesday.

Okoduwa in a statement noted that the property which houses Zinaria International School is located at Plot 298 Wuye District, Cadastral Zone B3, FCT, Abuja.

According to Okoduwa, Mohammed as the Minister of FCT allocated the structure to a school “that had himself and family members as directors and shareholders”.

ICPC noted that the former minister did this despite an existing right of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture over the land.

The Commission further stated that it would issue notices of seizure on the property to the appropriate land registry, ministry and department where the property is situated.

Okoduwa recalled that Mohammed had earlier been charged for using his office to confer a corrupt advantage on himself and relations under Section 19 of ICPC law.

The commission revealed that it could not arraign the Bauchi State Governor before he was sworn in as Governor.

ICPC said in view of the provisions of Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the charge before Hon. Justice Senchi of FCT High Court 13, Jabi was withdrawn “to forestall being struck out by the court suo moto”.

Okoduwa disclosed that after notices of seizure, ICPC would apply to the court for an order of forfeiture under Section 48 of the ICPC Act.
