FG Issues Fresh Directive To JAMB Over 2020/2021 Admission Processes

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and all tertiary institutions have been directed to commence the conduct of admissions for the 2020/2021 academic session.

This was made known by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, at the 2020 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The Minister urged JAMB and other higher institutions to consider candidates with last year’s Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and other qualifying results

Adamu, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, stated that those who are yet to sit for their SSCE this year will be considered when they take their examination.

He said: “JAMB and tertiary institutions could take advantage of the current situation and consider candidates with previous years Senior School Certificate Examination and other qualifying results to proceed on with the admission process.

“Whatever arrangement that the country comes up within the long-run will surely accommodate those who will be taking the examination when the opportunity to do so is worked out.”

Naija News recalls that JAMB on Tuesday released its resolutions on the admission requirement into higher institutions for the 2020 academic session.

The examination body held a digital meeting to finalise on general minimum cut off marks required of admission seekers to gain admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges, among other agendas.

It was given that the cut-off mark for admission into tertiary institutions remains at 160 and above.

Speaking on the resolution, JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, noted that Polytechnics cut-off mark is pegged at 120 and above while Colleges of Education will accept 100 and above.

According to Oloyede, the body in 2019 offered admission to a total of 612, 557 admission seekers while 510,957 spaces were left unused by tertiary institutions.
