Just a few moments after Governor Godwin Obaseki renounced his membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Tuesday, Nigeria’s opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to the development.

The PDP in a tweet by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said it is keenly watching developments in Edo State.

Meanwhile, the PDP in a previous statement by its chairman in Edo State said Obaseki and other top officials of the APC may soon be a part of the umbrella team.

Speaking on the development, Tony Aziegbemi, however, reiterates that Obaseki would not be issued an automatic ticket to participate in the state’s governorship race due to the fact that other aspirants had earlier declared their interest for the same.

Naija News understands that PDP has scheduled its governorship primary election for Friday, June 19 and Saturday 20th of the same month.

Earlier in a telephone interview with newsmen, Aziegbemi disclosed that Obaseki would have to understand and accept the party’s rules and regulations before he will be allowed to join the party when he eventually defects from the APC camp.

“There is nothing like an automatic ticket for anybody; it is like that in any democratic environment, and there is a process as laid down by the constitution of the party and that we will follow,” Aziegbemi said.

“But I can confirm to you that the governor, his deputy, and the entire APC structure in the state will be joining the PDP soon. We have been in touch in the last few days; by tomorrow (today), I will be able to confirm the exact date he will be joining with his team.”

In another news, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has slammed Mr. Femi Adesina over his recent use of words in replying the convener of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi.
