The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has again taken to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to plead with the United States to save Christians in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the IPOB, who is also the Director of Radio Biafra, lamented that the Nigerian government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, has failed to protect Christians from persecution.

Kanu in a tweet called the United States government and the international community to take action and end the silent slaughter of innocent Christians, including Biafrans, across Nigeria.

The IPOB leader tweeted: “The Nigerian government has failed to protect Christians from persecution. It’s time for the @WhiteHouse, @StateDept and international community to TAKE ACTION and end the #SilentSlaughter of innocent Christians, including Biafrans, across Nigeria!”

Meanwhile, this is coming a week after the Presidency had said that the IPOB is plotting to stir a global apathy against Nigeria by falsely claiming that Christians are being persecuted.

The  Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who made this comment on Sunday, added that IPOB had secured the services of lobbyists and funded non-government organisations (NGO) to drive concocted claims against the Federal Government.

The Presidential spokesman said the aim is to diplomatically blackmail foreign countries, including the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK), into rupturing relations with Nigeria.

Shehu said the elaborately planned scheme, which had already started gaining steam with some officials of the American government, including the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, had been receiving monthly funding of $85,000 since last October 2019.

The Presidency said IPOB’s the Christian persecution claim should not be taken seriously, adding that Nnamdi Kanu is only interested in  Biafra and that the  ‘Jewish’ claim by the leadership of the IPOB, is not a position shared by the generality of the members.
