Anambra: Man Arrested For Assaulting His Nine-Year-Old Niece

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Hillary Apeh of Maryland Estate, Onitsha, for allegedly inflicting injuries on his niece, Chioma.

A further report revealed that Apeh had been assaulting the nine-year-old for a while which saw the girl suffer scars on her body.

An end came to his action on Monday, after some neighbours in the community intervened and reported him to the police.

The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, on Monday confirmed the incident.

Mohammed further stated that the command has commenced an investigation into the matter and the suspect will be made to face the law.

He added that the nine-year-old girl has been taken to hospital for treatment, while the suspect confessed to the crime.

According to Mohammed, the suspect confessed that he assaulted the victim because of her repeated refusal to run errands.

Mohammed said, “Around 10 am, police operatives attached to the 3-3 Police Station, Onitsha, arrested one Hillary Apeh, 40, of Maryland Estate, 3-3 area, Onitsha.”

“The suspect brutally assaulted his nine-year-old niece of the same address and inflicted several wounds on her body.”

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had on several occasions physically abused the victim, who has scars all over her body.”

“The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, while an investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be brought to justice.”
