The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that the report of gunshots in Aso Rock was a “palace coup to topple the presidency of Aisha Buhari’s boyfriend.”

Naija News reports that Muhammadu Buhari is Nigeria’s President and Aisha is the President’s wife but Kanu has consistently alleged that President Buhari is dead and had since been replaced by Jubril Al-Sudani from Sudan.

Since the IPOB leader resurfaced in Jerusalem, Israel two years ago, he has been alleging that President Buhari is dead and had since been replaced by Jubril Al-Sudani from Sudan, a claim which the President debunked.

President Buhari had said in reaction to Kanu’s claims that those spreading the rumours about his health and identity were “ignorant and irreligious.”

“A lot of people hoped that I died during my ill health. Some even reached out to the vice-president to consider them to be his deputy because they assumed I was dead.

“That embarrassed him a lot and of course, he visited me when I was in London convalescing… It’s [the] real me; I assure you,” President Buhari had said.

However, in  2020, Kanu has changed the narrative with the new claim that Jubril whom he said had replaced Buhari, has been killed and replaced by alleged Aisha Buhari’s boyfriend.

With the recent report of gunshots in Aso Rock following an attempt by Aisha Buhari, members of her immediate family and her Aide-de-camp, Usman Shugaba to try force Sabiu Yusuf, a Special Assistant to President Buhari into self-isolation, after he returned from Lagos state, where his wife had a baby, Kanu has given a new twist of the story.

Naija News understands that a report monitored on ThisDay newspaper had said trouble started when the First Lady, Zahra, Halima and Yusuf, accompanied by some of her security aides led by the Aide-de-Camp, went to the residence of Sabiu, who is the President’s nephew, demanding that he (Sabiu) self-isolate for 14 days, so as not to endanger the first family.

The incident which was described as a breach of security had seen the First Lady express disgust in a series of tweets on the micro-blogging site, where she warned: “That COVID-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently,

“I call on all relevant Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials.

Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to undergo a 14 days mandatory isolation no matter who the person is, no one should be above the law and the Police command will do well to remember that,” the First Lady had said.

Reacting to the incident in a tweet on Saturday, Kanu said: “Gunshots in Aso Rock as a palace coup to topple the ‘PRESIDENCY’ of Aisha Buhari’s boyfriend fails. Nigeria is a #FailingState.#BiafraExit.”
