1. President Buhari To Address Nigerians On Friday (Today)

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Friday, June 12, address Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast to mark the nation’s Democracy Day.

This was made known in a statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.

2. Governors Declare State Of Emergency On Rape

The Nigeria Governors Forum has declared a state of emergency on sexual and gender-based violence against women and children.

The state governors also renewed commitment to ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.

3. Nigerian Senate Passes N10.805tr Revised 2020 Budget

The Nigerian Senate has passed the revised 2020 budget sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari to the upper legislative chamber.

Naija News reports that the Senat increased the revised estimate from N10.59trillion to N10.805trillion.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister 32 political parties.

Justice Anwuli Chikere in her ruling on Thursday dismissed the suit filed by the parties against the power of INEC to deregister them.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, noted that democratic rule has come to stay in the country, due to the ability of Nigeria to govern itself 21 years after June 12, 1993 election.

He stated this in a ‘Democracy Day message to Nigerians’ on Thursday. He called on Nigerians in the message to be confident in democratic governance in the country.

6. Nigerian Senate Confirms Dongban-Mensem As Appeal Court President

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem as the President of the Court of Appeal.

The House of Representatives On Thursday, met with heads of security agencies over the recent security breach in the country.

At least 39.4 million Nigerians are likely to lose their jobs by the end of the year 2020, if the government “fails to take prompt preemptive measures,” Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has said.
