Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Health Minister has noted that there is a possibility of a new strain of COVID-19 in the country.

Since the index case was recorded in February, when an Italian man tested positive to coronavirus in Lagos, the figures have continued to grow steadily.

As at yesterday, the country already recorded 14,554 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Out of that number over 4000 patients had been discharged and 387 people had died.

Ehanire, while speaking during the daily media briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 yesterday said the virus could have mutated.

It was confirmed to be the same strain as what was circulating in Italy and China. So, we raised the question whether there has been mutation since then in people coming from other areas.
