Suspected gunmen have kidnapped 90-year-old Alhaji Dahiru Nyako, a brother to former Adamawa State Governor Muritala Nyako.
The nonagenarian was kidnapped in his house at Mayo – Belwa town, the headquarters of Mayo – Belwa Local Government Area of the state around 2am on Thursday, Naija News understands.
The incident was confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sulaiman Nguroje.
He added that operatives have already been dispatched while efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped man.
“The command had already deployed Anti-kidnapping and Operation Farauta Squads for quick response and rescue missions,” Nguroje said.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Umaru Sanda, the Gangwari of Ganye Chiefdom in Nasarawa State has lamented the activities of bandits in the area.
The traditional ruler noted that if security agencies don’t move quickly to arrest the situation, food output and other agricultural activities will be affected.
”Our people are well known farmers and agriculture is our economic drive and with the current insecurity, especially kidnapping, our people are now in fear to go to their farms.
”I am appealing to the appropriate authorities to do more in checkmating the activities of these criminals.
”On our part , we will support and cooperate with the government to ensure that the citizens live in peace without fear,” Sanda said.
