Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has promised to get back to work after testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ikpeazu stated this during a chat with his spokesperson, Enyinnaya Apollos, on Wednesday.

The Abia governor who stated that he was doing fine, asked his cabinet to carry on with the governance of the state.

Writing via his Facebook page, Apollos said: “He (Ikpeazu) said to me: ‘I’m very fine. Unu jide stage (you people should carry on with work), very soon I will be back. I’m doing fine’.”

Naija News recalls that John Okiyi Kalu, Abia commissioner of information in the state, had on Monday announced that Ikpeazu tested positive for the coronavirus and has been in isolation since submitting his sample.

He added that the deputy governor was directed to act on the governor’s behalf pending the time he resumes duty.

Kalu said: “Consequent on the above, the Governor has directed his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act on his behalf pending his full resumption of duties.

“We wish to urge all Abians to take the fight against COVID-19 serious as the disease is real but not a death sentence. Our state has the resources to manage patients back to good health.”
