The tragic death of  President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza after suffering a cardiac arrest has attracted several condolence messages from top African leaders and international organisation.

Naija News reported that  Nkurunziza died at the prime age 55 after suffering a cardiac arrest. However, President Muhammadu Buhari has described the late Nkurunziza as “a true patriot that steered the country through turbulent times with wisdom and foresight.”

Speaking via his twitter handle  Buhari expressed his “profound grief and sadness” over the death of Burundi’s President, Pierre Nkurunziza.

Naija News Understands that The Burundi President was expected to step down from the presidency in August after 15 years in power.

Meanwhile, Another top African president who had sent his condolence message to the people of Burundi is the South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa .

Ramaphosa said: “Burundi and all of Africa have lost a leader who was devoted to people-centred sustainable development, self-reliance, the sovereignty of his people and country, as well as peace on the Continent. “It was under the leadership of President Nkurunziza that Burundi became one of the major troop-contributing countries in the African Union Mission in lia. Burundi also deployed troops in the Central African Republic”, President Ramaphosa said.

However, The Burundi government has announced a seven days of mourning following the death of the Pierre Nkurunziza.
