The controversy surrounding the certificate presented for screening by Governor Godwin Obaseki appears to have been laid to rest.
This is as the University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed Governor Obaseki as an alumnus of the prestigious institution.
A statement credited to the Registrar of the institution, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi, said Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, studied Classics at the University between 1976 and 1979.
The statement added that Obaseki graduated with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
“Records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university.” the statement said.
It will be recalled some suggestions had emerged particularly on social media that Obaseki had presented a fake certificate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for screening ahead of the June 22 party primaries and the September 2020 governorship election in Edo state.
Obaseki is seeking a second term in office as Governor but his predecessor and National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole is said to prefer another candidate for the position.
