EFCC Grills Lagos Speaker Obasa Over Multi-Million Naira Fraud

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Naija News reports that Speaker, Obasa, had been accused of embezzling public funds and abusing his office.

An online newspaper, SaharaReporters, had accused the Lagos Assembly speaker of using his office to misappropriate funds and allocate contracts to himself through third party sources, as well as other acquaintances.

But appearing before a nine-man fact-finding panel chaired by Victor Akande, representative of Ojo constituency I, on Saturday, Obasa denied all allegations leveled against him.

Presenting the report of the fact-finding ad-hoc committee during plenary on Monday, Hon. Akande described allegations against Obasa as frivolous, adding that the speaker followed due process in all his dealings.

Akande also recommended that the clerk of the Lagos Assembly, Azeez Sanni, investigate how documents that led to the allegations against the speaker leaked.

He said: “We also recommend that the activities of the house should be digitalized for proper record keeping and monitoring.

“It was then suggested by the committee that a vote of confidence should be passed in the speaker of the house.

“The speaker did not have multiple accounts with Ecobank, the BVN ascribed to Wema Bank does not belong to him and the companies attributed to him in Wema Bank is not correct.”

The panel’s recommendations was put to a voice vote by Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, and they were unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.
