La Liga champions, Barcelona, on Tuesday disclosed the club captain, Lionel Messi, might top the league scoring charts and also set a new world record for goals with a single club this season.
The club further stated that the Argentina captain might become the player with the second most European crown and could equal Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs’ record as the player with the most titles with a single club if Barcelona wins the domestic and European titles this term.
Barcelona stated this in a post on their official website on Tuesday.
The La Liga champions will clash with Mallorca on June 11 after almost three months of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Messi is on course to top the Spanish goal charts [Pichichi] for the seventh time, which would move him one ahead of Athletic Bilbao legend, Telmo Zarra, with whom he is currently matched on six”
“Messi needs just 16 more goals to match Brazilian legend Pelé’s 643 goals for Santos, the most goals ever scored by a player for a single club.”
“Messi already has 627 for Barça with at least 12 games yet to play, and maybe more, he could very conceivably do that this very season.”
“If the Argentinian can help Barça to the domestic and European titles, he will also:”
“Become the player with the second most European crowns. He’d have five, leaving him just one short of Gento, who has a record six.”
“Match Ryan Giggs as the player with the most titles with a single club. Messi currently has 34 and two more would put him on a par with Manchester United’s legendary Welshman, who won 36.”
