The federal government has announced the suspension of the palliatives distribution as well as its conditional cash transfer programme in Zamfara State until further notice.

The development was announced in a statement in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

It is understood by Naija News that the federal government blamed the development on the insecurity in the state.

The announcement comes after the alleged controversy surrounding the visit by the Minister of humanitarian affairs Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq to Zamfara on Sunday.

The statement from the ministry reads, “The ministry has postponed the flag-off ceremony of the Conditional Cash Transfer intervention in Zamfara State due to insecurity.

“The flag-off of GEEP loans, fertiliser distribution and handing over of COVID-19 palliatives, all scheduled for the weekend in Zamfara, have been suspended till further notice.”

Before the announcement, it was reported that the Minister had gone to the Zamfara State government house on Sunday to pay a courtesy call on the governor, Bello Matawalle upon her arrival in the state.

However, it was gathered that neither the governor nor any of his aides were available to receive her and after waiting for several hours without being attended to, she returned to Abuja, using a waiting helicopter.

The people who had gathered to receive the palliatives returned home empty-handed.
