The increase in the number of rape reported cases in Nigeria has raised the call for a review in our law and orders.

The House of Representatives on Thursday voted against a prayer seeking to recommend castration for rapists.

The house at the plenary raised a motion on the rising cases of sexual violence in Nigeria.

The lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, recommended that persons found guilty of rape should be castrated.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, before the prayer was subjected to vote, asked what would happen to an older female who rapes a younger male.

The comment of the speaker generated noise in the house, and the prayer was put to vote by the nay had it.

Recall that an 18-year-old lady, simply known as Barakat, was raped and killed by her rapist in her home in Ibadan, days after a 22-year-old lady, Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, an100-level student of the University of Benin, was raped and brutally murdered by some men in Benin after she had gone to read in a church.
