The Federal Government on Tuesday disclosed its plan to engage community volunteers for Coronavirus, due to the increase in confirmed cases in the country.

The community volunteers are expected to embark on house-to-house sensitization on the dangers and spread of coronavirus.

The plan of the Nigeria government was announced by the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire on Tuesday at the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) briefing on COVID-19.

Ehanire further stated that the ministry would be working with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, (NPHCDA) on the modalities.

The minister added that the targets are the local government areas which contribute nearly 60 per cent of the COVID-19 positive cases.

He revealed that the beneficiaries might not be evenly distributed due to the number of Coronavirus cases in Kano, Lagos, Ogun and FCT.

The minister noted that a team from the ministry is in Lagos on an appraisal visit, during which a situation analysis will be conducted and the team will also visit the contiguous Ogun State on the same mission.

“The visits are in continuation of similar useful initiatives in the past to Kano, Katsina Sokoto, Jigawa, Gombe, and Borno, to share experience and ideas, align strategy and support each other,” Ehanire said.
