Job creation has been described as one of the primary thrust of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

According to Nigeria’s Minister of State for labour, productivity, and employment, Festus Keyamo Buhari administration, in the last five years, has performed excellently well in job creation.

Speaking on how the president had performed on keeping his promise on job creation within the country, Keyamo said that the government had created more avenue for skilled persons to get a job in his administration for the last five years.

He said:

The Buhari administration has performed well in its job creation promise. The basic thrust of this government in job creation is to ‘skill up’ people so they can be self-employed and create jobs.”

Keyamo speaking further said that

“What makes the efforts of the government unnoticed is because Nigeria’s population grows faster than the rate of jobs”.”The population grows faster than the rate of job creation. On job creation, we have done creditably well,” he added.

Also, speaking on the efforts made to cushion the effect of coronavirus on workers, the senior lawyer said: “The FG has made a special fund available to cushion the effect of COVID-19. People at the grassroots; the unskilled laborers are a big part of the economy.”

Meanwhile, in a related development, the federal government has unveiled details of its plan to employ 1,000 persons from each of the 774 local government areas in the country.

The initiative will start October 1 and each beneficiary will be paid N20,000 monthly to carry out public works.

Speaking on the prospective job placement, Keyanmo stated that each state in Nigeria will have a committee to choose those to be employed and the jobs they will perform.

He also said political leaders in all areas will be allowed to select not more than 10 percent of the beneficiaries in their areas.
