BON Slams NBC Over N5m Fine Imposed On Trust TV, Others

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined three broadcast station for ‘inappropriate’ report on coronavirus (COVID-19).

Speaking to newsmen on the amendment to the broadcast code, the Acting Director-General of the NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba said 25 stations were also sanctioned and fined for other various offences in the first quarter of 2020.

Naija News reports that the stations sanctioned on the account of their report on COVID-19 are Breeze FM and Adaba FM in Akure, Ondo state.

Adaba station, it was also learnt, was sanctioned twice.

The NBC also asked the stations to pay a fine of N250,000 for the offences.

It was gathered that Ababa station will pay the fine twice.

Meanwhile, the NBC DG said a new time table for the Digital Switch Over (DSO) rollout will be announced immediately after the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to Idachaba, part of the plan was to roll out in the three major cities of the country Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt.
