People living in the Dapchi community of Yobe State have appealed to the federal government to urgently redeploy soldiers back to their community.

The residents lamented that soldiers have left their area after an attack by Boko Haram that resulted in the burning of their camp.

According to a resident of the town who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the residents of the town have been living in constant fear of an attack by Boko Haram and other forms of attacks.

He noted that a few policemen come to their community but usually leave in the evening.

They, therefore, appealed to the federal government for the urgent deployment of permanent security personnel to the area.

“Two days ago, we fled into the bushes to hide when we heard that they (Boko Haram) were coming to attack,” the resident said.

“We sent our children, women and the aged who could not run to stay in neighbouring places while the men remained in the town but were sleeping in the bushes at night.”

He however added that when they realized there was no attack, they had since returned to the town and businesses were picking up gradually.

“There was no attack and everybody has returned home. But we need security; there is no security again since the soldiers left. They left after Boko Haram burnt their camp and we have been sleeping with our two eyes open for fear of the unknown.”

“There are a few mobile policemen here, but in the evening, they normally go to another community called Baimari.

“We are pleading with the government to provide security for us.”

It will be recalled Naija News previously published a story that the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group on Monday, 18th May, launched a fresh attack against Dapchi, a town in Busari local government of Yobe state.

The insurgents were said to have invaded the town in gun trucks around 7pm.

The insurgents set many houses on fire while the residents have fled into the bushes and other neighbouring villages to escape the attack, Bala Bukar, a resident told TheCable.

He added that the military has deployed fighter jets to the area and have engaged the insurgents in a hot exchange of gun fire.

Dapchi first came to the front burner of national issues in 2018 when terrorists invaded the community and abducted 117 female secondary school students in the town.

While the abducted girls have been returned, five of them died in captivity while Leah Sharibu, the only Christian among them is yet to be released till date as she reportedly refused to renounce her Christian faith in exchange for her freedom.
