NCDC Reports 229 New Cases Of Coronavirus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed two hundred and twenty-nine new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The NCDC on confirmed the new cases on its official Twitter account on Monday night at about 11:36 pm. This brings the total number of Coronavirus cases in the country to 8068.

Lagos Confirms 148 New COVID-19 Cases, One Death

The Lagos State Government on Monday confirmed 148 news cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) as cases rise to 3521.

This was confirmed on Monday in a post on Twitter by the Lagos State Minister of Health, Prof Akin Abayomi.

Lagos State also recorded one coronavirus related death with 738 discharged.

Abayomi wrote: “COVID19Lagos update as at 24th of May, 2020.

“Public address loudspeaker148 new COVID19 Infection confirmed. Total number of confirmed #COVID19 cases in Lagos is now 3521.

“Public address loudspeaker31 fully recovered #COVID19Lagos patients; 12 females & 19 males were discharged after testing negative to COVID-19.”

WHO Suspends Clinical Trial of COVID-19 Drugs

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has suspended the clinical trials of hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for coronavirus (COVID-19).

Naija News reports that the COVID-19 drugs trial is being carried out across a range of countries.

WHO took the decision after last week publication of a study in the Lancet indicating that using the drug on COVID-19 patients could increase their likelihood of dying.
