In commemoration of this year, Africa Day with the theme “Silencing the Guns in the context of the COVID-19″ President Muhammadu Buhari has called on all Africans to seek for peaceful co-existence and harmony with the hope of developing the continent to enviable heights.

Speaking via a message to African leaders to mark the annual Africa day, Buhari emphasized the need for African leaders to ensure the success of silencing the guns on the continent. He also called for peace among African Nations as a prerequisite for sustainable development and Economic Growth.

‘’Peace, security, unity and harmony are prerequisites for development in Africa,”.Speaking further, Buhari advised citizens all over the continent to come up with innovations on how ‘’Silencing the Guns” can be used to achieve peace and grow African economies.

“He also urged regional economic groups, civil society organizations and the private sector in Africa to take full ownership of the theme of this year’s celebration to strengthen collaborative efforts among member-countries of the African Union.

Naija  News Understands that the  African continent celebrated its 57th anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) annually marked as Africa Day.

The Organization was established on 25th May 1963 with the aim of promoting political, economic and social integration among the family of African States, and to eradicate colonialism, apartheid and neo-colonialism from the African continent. It was later transformed into the African Union on 09 July 2002 in Durban, South Africa, to achieve greater unity, cohesion and solidarity between African countries and nations.
