The Federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has impounded an aircraft belonging to Flair Aviation, a United Kingdom-based aviation company for operating a commercial flight as against the humanitarian operations it was given approval for in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika ordered the impoundment of the British aircraft for conducting commercial flights into Nigeria despite the ban on all commercial flights amid Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.

The Aviation Minister who confirmed this on his official twitter handle on Sunday, said Flair Aviation crew are also being interrogated as there shall be maximum penalty for the offence.

Sirika tweeted: “#COVID-19. Flair Aviation, a UK company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably we caught them conducting commercial flights.

“This is callous! The craft is impounded, crew being interrogated. There shall be maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve!”.

“It would be recalled that the federal government banned commercial flights operations in and out of the country as part of efforts to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19),” the Aviation Minister wrote on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
