Some COVID-19 patients on Friday, May 15th, 2020 attempted to escape from the isolation center in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The attempt was however prevented by the government’s intelligence network.

Naija News understands the persons that attempted to escape were among the imported cases who violated the interstate lockdown and came into the state.

They have since been arrested by security agents and returned to the centre.

This development was confirmed in a statement on Friday by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor/Spokesman, Kwara State COVID-19 Committee.

“Earlier today, Friday May 15th, 2020, the government’s intelligence network uncovered a plot by some COVID-19 patients who sneaked into the state to escape.”

“This attempt was promptly foiled leading to arrest and return of the patients who had already scaled the fence.”

“The government is dismayed that these persons were among the imported cases who intentionally violated the interstate lockdown and came into the state.”

“Security has been further beefed up at our isolation centre. The government restates that COVID-19 is not a death sentence and there is no reason why anyone would want to escape and put their own lives and the lives of other people at risk.”

Meanwhile, Kwara State recorded two fresh positive cases according to the update given on Friday evening by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on the number of coronavirus infection in Nigeria.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria currently stands at 5,445. This includes 1,320 discharged persons and 171 deaths.
