Sokoto: Ex-Governor Sets To Establish Northwest University

According to a statement by Bashir Rabe Mani, the Media Assistant to the former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, necessary provision are already put into place, for the establishment of a Northwest University in the state.

Rabe disclosed to newsmen on Saturday that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence is planning to establish the ivory tower in the state soon, adding that the proposed University would be established through his foundation.

The statement reads: “The Aliyu Magatakarda Foundation has met all the extant requirements for the establishment of a Premier pioneer private University in Sokoto, Northwest University.”

“The Leader of the Foundation, who also doubles as the Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, had submitted all documents to the National Universities Commission (NUC).”

“The documents were received by the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Rasheed.

“The documents included among others, evidence of payment of the Processing Fees, Academic Briefs, Master Plan, Environmental Impact Assessment, Subsoil Investigations Report and the Draft University Law.”

Naija News, however, recalled that Nigerian University Lecturers in the last month rejected the submission of Bank Verification Number (BVN) as a condition for payment of February and March withheld salaries of university lecturers.
