Senate President, Lawan Gets Angry As Colleagues Flout COVID-19 Rules

The President of the Nigeria Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has frowned on his distinguished colleagues for refusing to practice social distancing during plenary.

Lawan admonished the senators to abide by the laid down rules and regulations in order to curb the spread of coronavirus among them.

The senate president described his colleague’s attitude during the plenary as dangerous, urging them all to desist from further violation of social distancing rules which they are already aware of.

Lawan made the observation while reading votes and proceedings of Tuesday’s sitting for adoption, Naija News understands.

He said, “Senators at the back row must sit far apart from each other in line with the precautionary measures against spread of coronavirus.”

“Senators were leaders who must lead by examples given that Nigerians and the world watch how they conduct themselves in the face of the pandemic.”

He added, “The principle is not observed at the back seats going by the way distinguished colleagues interact. Please let the principle be reflected straight away by ensuring the required gaps between the seats.”

Again not long after Lawan made his first observation on the social distancing, he scolded Senator Uche Iyom Ekwunife, telling her to keep a distance from Senator Ovie Omo- Agege, his deputy.

He, reiterates further that wearing of facemask is compulsory at all-time in the plenary, most especially whosoever is having anything to say at the chamber.

In another development earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the confirmation of Professor Jumai Audi, as the chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC), Naija News reports.
