COVID-19: Abdulrazaq Grants Amnesty To 46 Prisoners

In a bid to control the spread of the novel COVID-19 Virus in the North central province, The Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved the release of forty-six different inmates.

Naija News understands that the approval came when  the state Chief Judge, Justice Sulyman Kawu, on Wednesday visited the Mondala and Oke-Kura correctional centers,

According to the chief judge who spoke all the forty-six inmates were awaiting trial.

He, however, advised them to shun criminal activities and be useful to their families and the society at large. He also urged the freed inmates to be law-abiding and ensure they contribute their quota to the development of the state.

Mr Adebisi Francis, State Controller of Correctional Service, commended Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the chief judge for exercising their prerogative power as enshrined in Section 212 of the Constitution.He said that 101 inmates had earlier benefited from the gesture.

Naija news also recalls that the amnesty program was first introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari to reduce the number of inmates at all federal correctional centers in the country
