The lawmaker representing Bayo constituency in the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Audi, has died.

It was gathered that the lawmaker passed away at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to TheCable, a hospital source said the late lawmaker was initially rejected because there was no bed space.

The source stated that health workers stood their ground that the only available space was for any emergency that has to do with childbirth.

But the family members who took him there reportedly prevailed upon the hospital authorities before he was attended to.

“He died shortly after they admitted him. His sample has been sent to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control to certify if the death has anything to do with COVID-19,” the source said.

Naija News reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday confirmed 148 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The confirmation brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 2950, including 481 discharged persons and 98 deaths.
