The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, has in a statement explained that no less than twenty-seven (27) officers of the force have been humiliated and attacked by the general public during the lockdown.

According to Mba, some of the officers who were assaulted in a different location are still receiving care in the hospitals due to the kind of injury inflicted on them.

He, however, revealed that a woman who appeared in a now-viral video assaulting an officer of the Police Force has been arrested.

Naija News understands that the said woman, a residence in Oyo State whose name is revealed as Kehinde Afolake hits police personnel on the face 13 times and bit two others.

The now-viral video saw the single mother of six slapping ASP Adeyemi Ogunyemi who is a Divisional Crime Officer at Eruwa Police Division in Oyo State.

Despite the humiliation from Ms Afolake, ASP Ogunyemi did display a commendable act by restraining himself from touching her or to even allow other officers to hits back on her.

He calmly received the slaps from Afolake without showing any form of retaliation.

This online news platform understands that the drama happened when ASP Ogunyemi had led a team of officers to enforce the COVID-19 lockdown at Gbolagunte, Okeola area of Eruwa, Ibarapa, in Oyo State on Sunday, May 1, 2020.

Other officers with the ASP had tried to react furiously to the woman but were all restrained by their superior who withstands 13 slaps from the angry mother.

Speaking on the incident in a statement made available to newsmen by the Police PRO, Frank Mba, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, applauds ASP Ogunyemi for the way he was able to handle the situation despite the unpleasant humiliation.

The IGP described Ogunyemi’s restrain as uncommon and also an act of professionalism in the face of the unprovoked attack.

The IGP said, “the officer, like a lamb being led to the slaughter, did not fight back but rather, maintained an absolute calm, patience and decorum even as the woman rough handled him and slapped him severally.”

Adamu, however, warned that the force will never take such again from the general public, having an officer assaulted in such a manner.

On his part, Mba further explained that two other female officers, Inspr. Ojola Abiola and Inspr. Queen Eguaoje were also assaulted by the same woman who bit one of the women while carrying her to the Police Station after she had slapped the ASP 13 times.

On this note, the Oyo state Commissioner of Police has been authorized to handle discreetly the incident at Ewura.
