1. Trump Calls Buhari, Makes Fresh Promises To Nigeria

The President of the United States, Donald Trump on Tuesday, engaged his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari in a phone conversation.

According to information gathered, Trump declared support for Nigeria in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and promised to send ventilators to Nigeria.

2. Why The Senate Resumed Plenary Despite Coronavirus Pandemic – Lawan

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has explained why the lawmakers had to resume plenary despite the prevailing situation in Nigeria caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The Senate President in his welcome address to the lawmakers at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, noted that they had to return “to sustain work on solutions and to ensure that the health crisis does not create further problems that might be much more difficult to deal with.”

3. COVID-19: Nigerian Lawmakers Summon Boss Mustapha, Ehanire Over Massive Deaths In Kano

Lawmakers at the Lower Chamber of the National assembly has called on the Presidential Task Force Chairman, Boss Mustapha, and its committee to present themselves over strange deaths in Kano.

This was sequel to a motion of urgent importance moved by the House Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa seeking federal government quick intervention to the death spike in Kano.

4. Nigerian Senate Approves Buhari’s N850bn Loan Request

The Senate has given accelerated approval to President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to raise a fresh loan of N850 bn from the domestic capital market to fund projects in the 2020 budget.

Naija News reported that the request was contained in a Presidential memo read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan on the floor of the Senate.

5. CBN Lifts Suspension On Cheques Clearing

The Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) has removed the suspension placed on cheque clearing by the Deposit Money Banks.

It stated this in a circular to all the DMBs and Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System issued on Monday, titled, ‘Temporary suspension of cheque clearing in the Nigerian clearing system’, which was signed by its Director, Banking Services Department, Sam Okojere.

6. Covid-19: Palliatives Must Reach All Nigerians In Need – Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has said that the palliatives provided by the Federal Government at this time of lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic must reach all Nigerians in need.

Gbajabiamila said although the government has done its best to reach as many Nigerians as possible, evidence showed that many Nigerians in need are yet to get any form of palliative.

7. Presidency Speaks On Reopening Schools To Take Exams

President Muhammadu Buhari‘s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, has again reiterated on federal government’s stand on school resumption following the gradual relaxation of the lockdown ordered by the president on Monday during his speech on COVID-19.

Naija News reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conditional and phased relaxation of the lockdown imposed on Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States due to the coronavirus outbreak.

8. House Of Reps Speaks On Setting Up COVID-19 Test Centres In All 774 LG Of The Country

The federal government has been urged to set-up testing centres in all 774 local governments areas across the federation.

The advice was given by the House of Representatives today, while also resolving to send an invitation to the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, the Director-General Nigeria Centre of Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu and Chairman of the COVID-19 Task Force, Boss Mustapha to appear before the House on Tuesday, 5th of May, 2020 to brief the House on COVID-19 efforts in Nigeria.

9. Coronavirus: Governor Fayemi Announces Curfew In Ekiti

The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has announced 6 pm-6 am curfew daily in the state until further notice and no movement of the vehicle or human traffic whatsoever will be allowed except for verified medical emergencies.

This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari in a nationwide broadcast on Monday extended the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun State and FCT for one week.

10. Boss Mustapha Speaks On What Might Happen To ‘Almajiris’ In The Near Future

Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha has warned all the governors and Northern rulers not to neglect the Almajiris if not they will become a huge problem for Nigeria in the future.

Naija News understands Mustapha made the statement during the daily briefing of the Presidential taskforce team in Abuja on Monday as a reaction to the decision of some Northern Governors to repatriate the Almajiris to their states of origin as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region.
