The attack by gunmen on three communities in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state has resulted in the death of at least 7 persons.

Five others who were lucky not to have been killed but sustained injuries have also been taken to the Sabon Tasha General Hospital, Kaduna where they are receiving treatment.

Peter Aboki, president of Gbagyi Development Union (GDU) explained that the attacks started in the early hours of Thursday up till about 4pm.

He narrated that the gunmen went from one village to the other and listed Akwunakwo, Kabirasha, and Damba as some of the affected communities.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Friday, a report monitored on The Cable has it that Aboki said two people were killed in Akwunakwo where the attack started before the gunmen moved to Kabirasha afterwards.

“I have not received information about any casualty at Kabirasha, except the abduction of a deaf and dumb person by the invaders,” he said.

“This is because by the time the gunmen got there, the villagers had fled following news of the attack on Kwunakwo. Damba village was attacked at about 4:00pm and five people were killed. We suspect that the attack was by the same people.”

Many houses were burnt, foodstuff looted and vehicles destroyed during the attack while members of the communities close to where the bandits operated fled into the bushes, Aboki added.

“We know that government is doing its best to address the security situation, but we want government to do more because people are being killed or abducted almost on a daily basis.”

“Those areas are becoming a no go area as a result of the deadly activities of bandits and we want government to do everything possible to stop these frequent loss of lives and destruction of property,” he said.

As at the time of filing this report, Muhammad Jalige, spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, could not be reached for confirmation.
