Coronavirus: Sokoto Shuts Its Borders Against COVID-19 Patient, Family

Sokoto State government shuts its border against a resident who is said to be a suspected COVID-19 patient.

According to the report confirmed in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Relations to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Muhammad Bello, a man and his family have been refused entry into the state following reports that the man has had contact with an index case earlier.

Bello noted that the decision of barring them was to ensure total compliance to the lockdown rules earlier issued and as well as following protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

He stated further that the individuals were intercepted following details that reveals that one of them was earlier identified as a returnee Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE) and has contracted the virus.

Speaking on the entry denial, Governor Tambuwal, “I spoke with him on the telephone twice pleading that he should not come to the state. But he told me that he has a pass to come. I have therefore directed the security operatives to be vigilant and arrest him and return him to Abuja immediately,”

He, however, urged religious leaders and other stakeholders in the State to ensure the suspect and his family are not allowed to come into the State for the interest of the residents.

Meanwhile, men of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State command reportedly in intercepted a vehicle conveying the remains of a suspected Coronavirus (COVID-19) patient, Naija News report.
