The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Kayode Egbetokun, has warned all residents of Offa communities in the state to stay at home following the outbreak of Coronavirus in the state on Monday.

Mr Egbetokun noted that markets, eateries and banks will remain closed in the state in an effort to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

The CP in a statement through the command’s spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi, said in accordance with the total lockdown order of Offa communities by the state government, “all vehicles, motorcycles, both private and commercial are to stay off the roads in the affected areas.”

“People in the above-mentioned communities are not to be seen on the streets and therefore advised to stay at home as a sufficient number of police personnel and other security agencies have been deployed to ensure strict compliance with the order until relaxed by the state government.”

He said that “deriving from the two COVID-19 cases reported in the state and in an effort to stem its spread, the state government has ordered a total lockdown of Offa communities by 6 pm of Wednesday 8th April 2020.”

The residents of Offa were warned after the Deputy Governor of the state, Kayode Alabi, announced a total lockdown of Offa communities as part of the moves by the government to check the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
