Downing Sreet has revealed that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital for tests, 10 days after testing positive for coronavirus.

Naija News recalls that the British PM had disclosed he was positive in a video published on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

PM Johnson said developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus, adding that he immediately self-isolating but will continue to lead the British government’s response via video-conference.

The British Prime Minister tweeted: “Over the last 24 hours, I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.

“I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.

“Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives,” he tweeted.

In a new development, Boris Johnson was taken to a London hospital last night with “persistent symptoms” – including a temperature.

It is said to be a “precautionary step” taken on the advice of his doctor.

In a statement, a Downing Street spokeswoman said: “On the advice of his doctor, the prime minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests.

“This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus.”

“The prime minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the government’s advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

Mr Johnson remains in charge of the government, but the foreign secretary is expected to chair a coronavirus meeting on Monday morning.
